Product Information

The 2007 Little Rock School Desegregation case commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Little Rock Nine and the significant events that unfolded during the desegregation of Little Rock’s public schools in 1957. The Little Rock Nine were a group of nine African American students who enrolled at Little Rock Central High School, which had previously been an all-white institution. Their attendance was met with intense resistance, including an angry mob and the intervention of the Arkansas National Guard, which was ordered by Governor Orval Faubus to prevent them from entering the school. The situation escalated to a point where President Eisenhower had to intervene, sending federal troops to enforce the students’ right to attend the school.

In 2007, various commemorative events and discussions highlighted the legacy of the Little Rock Nine, reflecting on issues of race and inequality in education. The anniversary served as a reminder of the ongoing struggles and achievements in the fight for civil rights, as well as the profound impact these events had on the American educational landscape.

This coin is a 90% Silver commemorative coin graded by NGC MS70.
