Product Information

The Susan B. Anthony dollar was a United States dollar coin minted from 1979 to 1981, and then again in 1999. It was the first circulating U.S. coin to feature an actual woman instead of an allegorical representation of liberty. The coin featured a portrait of Susan B. Anthony, a prominent American women's rights activist, on the obverse side. On the reverse side, the coin featured an eagle landing on the moon, which symbolized the United States' national achievement of the Apollo moon landing.

While the Susan B. Anthony dollar was intended to replace the one-dollar bill, it was not widely accepted by the public due to its similarity in size and appearance to the quarter. Additionally, there was confusion regarding its value, as it was often mistaken for a quarter. As a result, the production of the coin ended in 1981, but limited quantities were minted for collectors in 1999.
