Product Information

The 1964 Kennedy half dollar holds a significant place in U.S. numismatic history. It is the first year this denomination was minted to honor President John F. Kennedy, following his assassination in November 1963. The design was quickly commissioned and approved, with the obverse featuring a profile portrait of President Kennedy facing left, designed by Chief Engraver Gilroy Roberts. The reverse showcases the Presidential Seal, designed by sculptor Frank Gasparro, with a prominent eagle in flight.

These coins were minted from 90% silver, a composition that was standard for circulating half dollars at the time but would change in 1965. The 1964 mintage was exceptionally high, reflecting both the public's desire for a tangible connection to President Kennedy and the ongoing demand for half dollars. Millions were struck at the Philadelphia and Denver mints.
