Product Information

The 1962 Proof Franklin half dollar represents a significant coin in American numismatic history, not only for its stunning visual appeal but also for its place within the Franklin half dollar series. Proof coins, in general, are specially struck coins with a higher quality finish than regular issue coins, intended for collectors. They are struck multiple times using specially polished dies and planchets, resulting in exceptionally sharp, detailed images with mirror-like fields and frosted, raised design elements. This contrast between the smooth, reflective background and the matte, raised artwork is the hallmark of a proof coin.

The Franklin half dollar series, minted from 1948 to 1963, features Benjamin Franklin on the obverse, designed by John R. Sinnock, and the Liberty Bell on the reverse, designed by John Deege. The composition of the 1962 Proof Franklin half dollar, like its regular issue counterparts from that era, is 90% silver and 10% copper.
