Product Information

The Canadian dollar has been the official currency of Canada since 1858. In 1867, Prince Edward Island joined the Canadian Confederation and began using the Canadian dollar as its official currency. In 1871, Prince Edward Island became the seventh province of Canada.

To commemorate the centennial of Prince Edward Island joining Confederation in 1873, the Canadian government issued a special commemorative dollar coin in 1973. The coin featured a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on one side and the coat of arms of Prince Edward Island on the other side.
